Mydin only have 2 shops after it being establish in 1957 at Kota Bharu but now, Mydin have 94 outlets nationwide including 7 hypermarket, 18 emporiums, 3 bazaars 52 mini-marts that operates as MyMydin, 9 convenience stores that operate as MyMart and 6 franchise outlets operating as Mydin Mart. Now it is known as Mydin Mohamed Holdings BHD. in Malaysia and they also have total value of RM 1. 6 billion per year. Everyone that success have their own recipe or secret so do Mydin. Their success is because of the value and culture that run towards the family and actually, Mydin’s family is come from India. Mydin Mohamed is the third generation that reside in Malaysia. In 1916, Jamal, Mydin’s grandfather migrates to Malaysia. Like other immigrants, he is one of the young generations that have the guts to take the challenges and go abroad to find business opportunities in a new place. These things happen when Jamal read the newspaper when he is still in India and at that time he read the news about the success of Chinese immigrants in Malaya at that time. Actually, Mydin Mohamed’s father, Ghulam Hussein has already been successful in the business field around the 20 to 30’s. With the business values and culture, Mydin’s family stick with these values to be used in their business and for their success. Mydin’s family really concerned with the education and Mydin himself being send to English school. They remain and stick with their discipline and live with a moderate way of life. Now, Mydin Mohamed is still humble and he is not an extravagant person although he is a successful person. Besides that, Mydin’s family also stick with the honesty within their family and their worker. There is a day when a supervisor commits a desertion where he or she embezzles the money from the sales. Although the disciplinary action is hard to be done, it must be taken immediately after proven wrong and the supervisor in return is being terminated from his position and service. The mistakes that have been done can be forgiven but not if it involve fraud and dishonesty. Other than that, Mydin Mohamed did not start his business by using his dad even though his dad has been already successful in business field. He chooses to start from the bottom to gain all the knowledge and experience about managing a business.
